Questions

  1. Who is required (by law) to pay the vehicle excise duty?
  2. If a vehicle has an unsteady trailer attached and wants to pull out in front of you, what should you do as a driver?
  3. At what age can you begin driving a "luxury" class car?
  4. If a police car signals you to pull over, where should you park?
  5. Can you drive with your boot/trunk open at any time on British roads?

Answers

  1. Vehicle excise duty (VED), or road tax is paid by the individual who is the registered keeper of that vehicle (the owner of the vehicle).
  2. If you believe that the trailer is unsafe, you should stop and stay away from the trailer. Let the trailer pass if the road you're on allows this.
  3. 17. Whether you have a "luxury" vehicle, a "sports" vehicle or a "compact" vehicle, it doesn't matter in the UK. All cars are drivable at 17.
  4. You should park in the closest available space that can safely store your car and not block other motorists as well as the police car.
  5. Driving with your boot/trunk open is legal, however, it is also dangerous and not recommended. It can hinder other drivers' vision as well as risking something falling onto the road and disrupting traffic flow.

Summary

The topics covered this week were documents, personal safety & vehicle safety, types of road vehicles, incidents, accidents & emergencies and vehicle loading.
